Y Bwth

Following an extensive community consultation process TBA are designing a youth centred community building for the Welsh village. It will provide space for a wide variety of activities and events but also be a dedicated place for hanging out and offering a welcome. Set in a post-industrial landscape of now vanished coal mining infrastructure the site is also a gateway to the hills, tracks and bike paths of the Rhondda.

Flood risk constraints meant the scheme has taken shape as a deep retrofit of an existing structure on the site with a raised roof, canopies, terraces, a small extension, outdoor performance space and planting areas. The materials chosen are low carbon and an industrial palette.
